Video installation

I wanted to create a feeling of a flashback; share a small fragment from a bigger story that is never to be told. I wanted to capture the in-between state after a reveleation, turning point or decision. The starting point for me was a theme of separation, making the undertone longing yet daring. It’s a battle between old and new, safe and unknown.
The video was installed in a big space and projected on a 3 meter wide, see-through fabric that floated in the air. The small actions grow meaningful on a big screen.
I’m interested in miniature changes that happen slowly in serene pace, and actions that are barely visible; what can be told by simply being. I thought about communication, misinterpretation and untrustworthy memory. How do we interpret other people with the gift and burden of our unique history. How do we read situations and write our own stories out of them.
We tend to see connections in everything. By creating this illusory situation I’m studying what we read and interpret from facial expressions and body language only, with very little other elements added in. Will we start to see meanings in there where there is none?
This piece was sort of an excercise and experiment for me. I see it as a work in progress, waiting for a continuation.
